Local energy company's name changes - 11 October 2007

Bay of Plenty Electricity announced today the company has changed its name to Bay of Plenty Energy.

Chris Power, commercial manager, advised that the new name better reflected that the Whakatane-based business provided its customers with more than just electricity. Mr Power also stated that while the name had changed, this would not have any impact on customers or the service that they received.

"We are the long-term energy provider to this region and we supply both electricity and natural gas to customers throughout the Bay of Plenty", said Mr Power. "Our new name, 'Bay of Plenty Energy' more accurately reflects our ongoing commitment to meeting the wider energy needs of our customers.

Mr Power also advised that although the name had changed, the service and commitment that Bay of Plenty Energy provided remained the same.

"Bay of Plenty Energy is still based in Whakatane, we still employ a local team and we continue to support a wide range of local events, causes and initiatives that have benefit our region and our community", said Mr Power. "At the end of the day, we live here too and therefore have a vested interest in the long-term wellbeing of this region and our customers."
