By going solar and harnessing a clean, fully renewable resource you can reduce your home’s carbon footprint and help cut New Zealand’s production of greenhouse gases.

Every Solar home water heating system installed reduces New Zealand’s dependence on non-renewable energy sources by using the sun’s energy. It is estimated that each home system saves around 1.4 tonnes of CO² emissions annually. This calculation works on the assumption that by using solar energy, a mix of coal and gas fired electricity generation is avoided.

Most households use up to 40% of their electricity every year on generating hot water (source - EECA).
A solar hot water heating system which uses the sun’s energy can provide your household with up to 75% of your annual hot water needs (source - EECA).
This will slash your power bill and significantly reduce your household’s reliance on electricity and gas as well as reduce your household carbon footprint.

$500 - $1000 Government grant now available

The $500 - $1000 Residential Solar Grant is available via the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority. It is available for all package systems when used for a retrofit to an existing tank provided the tank being retrofitted to has similar characteristics to the tank modelled in the packaged system. Our consultant will work out your eligibility when they visit.

Easy payments on your monthly energy invoice No deposit, no interest and no up-front fees

Go solar and you can pay off your Solar hot water heating system via your monthly Bay of Plenty Energy electricity bill with an interest free lending term of one to five years.

Depending on how much hot water your household uses, Bay of Plenty Energy can provide three sizes of systems. A system designed to meet the needs of three to four people using a 180 litre hot water cylinder will cost you $93 per month over five years.

There are no up-front costs and installation of the system is included in the price, with up to five years interest-free.

The systems can be retrofitted to existing hot water cylinders provided they meet certain standards. Any water cylinder upgrade required is not included in our offer.

Prices

Normal credit criteria and offer terms and conditions apply, available from Bay of Plenty Energy on request. Offer is based on standard installation, is subject to site survey and only available in Bay of Plenty Energy supply areas.

No finance company

Bay of Plenty Energy will place your monthly Solar hot water heating system payment on your energy account and part of the offer agreement will require you to remain with Bay of Plenty Energy for the lending term. Be assured that Bay of Plenty Energy’s electricity and natural gas prices are very competitive.

This solar offer is to existing Bay of Plenty Energy customers or customers that join Bay of Plenty Energy for their electricity and if applicable their natural gas supply.
